They're Just Kids

They stand at the plate with their heart pounding fast.
The bases are loaded, the die has been cast.
Mom and Dad cannot help them, they stand all alone.
A hit at this moment would send their team home.
The ball meets the plate, the player swings and misses.
There's a groan from the crowd, with some boos and some hisses.
A thoughtless voice cries, "Strike out the bum."
Tears fill their eyes, the game's no longer fun.
So open up your heart and give them a break,
for it's moments like this, an adult you can make.
Please keep this in mind when you hear someone forget,
They're just kids, and not adult yet.

Peacefully on December 17, 2015 at the age of 79 at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Toronto after a 7 month battle with cancer. Born in Montreal, Quebec,

Brian was involved with the sport of baseball from age 8 and became a long-time volunteer in the sport as the President of Martingrove Baseball, and Vice-President of Etobicoke Baseball Association.
